American composer and folk music specialist, who was the step-mother of Pete Seeger. She took piano lessons with
Djane Lavoie-Herz, who sparked her interest in theosophy and Scriabin, and later met Dane
Rudhyar and Henry Cowell. For Canadian folk musicians, such as Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, and Leonard Cohen, there is the influence of the Vancouver Poetry Society. Hence, we have a confluence of Theosophical musical, poetic, and civil rights influences converging in the formation of one of the most important popular music currents of the 20th century.
